For rent, in the charming baroque town of Vác, only half an hour by train from the centre of exciting Budapest: a spacious, self-catering two-room holiday apartment, which looks out on a quiet and tree-shaded promenade and park and on the Danube river.

The apartment

The apartment is situated on the ground floor of our house and has a seperate entrance. The accomodation, which comfortably sleeps two to four people, is also well-suited for parents with children. It has a large bedroom and a living room with a sofa, which can be converted to a double bed. A babybed and a highchair are available and if necessary, we can provide an extra matrass.
There are a TV (BBC, CNN) and a DVD-player. The seperate kitchen is fully equiped with fridge, coffee machine, double hotplate, and microwave/grill. The bathroom has a bath/shower and there is a washing machine. Guests are invited to use the secluded garden (morning sun) and the barbecue facilities behind the house.

Surroundings

The proximity of both the Hungarian capital Budapest and the Börzsöny Mountains National Park, as well as the relaxed atmosphere of Vác itself make this a perfect place for those who want to combine a visit to one of Europe's most beautifull cities with more leasurely holiday activities. The centre of Budapest is only half an hour by train (the main train station is just ten minutes walking from the apartment, and trains run from 05.30 till 00.40) or three quarters of an hour by car.
Vác itself is a charming little town of 30,000 inhabitants. The baroque main square, around the corner from the apartment, has been extensively renovated and has some very picturesque historical buildings as well as several restaurants, cafés, and coffeehouses (including a superb chocolat café). There are also several small musea, among them an old crypt exhibiting the mummies of Vác; the remains of local citizens from the 18th century and their beautifully hand-painted coffins. In summer, there are regular open air performances on the square, ranging from classical concerts and folk dance to pop music. Nearby is also a daily freshmarket, where peasants from the surrounding villages sell their produce.

Only two minutes from the apartment is an open air swimming pool, but there are also little beaches along the Danube river just north and south of Vác, where one can swim. Opposite the house begins a well tended park along the river, which offers great opportunities for strolls and recreation. The park has two play grounds, one for small children and one for the more adventurous and bigger ones. A bit further on, the park makes room for the old river forest which is part of the Danube-Ipoly National Park. There is also a bicycle road running through the park, which is part of a bicycle trail along the Danube, running from Passau in Germany via Vienna and Bratislava to Budapest. There are ample possibilities for hiking and walking as well as for horse riding and canoeing in the vicinity of Vác. The Börzsöny, a wooded mountain range (highest peak 935 meter) of vulcanic origin, is populated by deer, wild boar and mouflon and has an extensive network of easy as well as more strenuous walking trails.
Both the Danube bend and the Börzsöny mountains are important bird watching areas.
The ferry from Vác to the Szentendre Island docks opposite the apartment. From the island, there are busses to the touristic towns of Szentendre (a former Serbian town with a Serbian orthodox church and Hungary's largest open air museum), Visegrad (old castle) and Esztergom (cathedral). In the summer season, there is also a daily boat going up the beautiful Danube bent to Visegrad, Esztergom and back.

€35 per night for one or two people.
€45 per night for three or four people.
Extra matras/child bed: €5.00 per night.
We also rent out bicycles for €5.00 a day.

For a stay of three nights or less, we charge €10.00 cleaning costs. Prices include the provision of lining (sheets, towels, tea-towels). Our guests can use our wifi connection for free.
